FAQs

Welcome to our inline skating club and the 2007 skating season. We are often asked a number of the same questions, especially earlier in the season, as well as at the sign-up nights!

In light of the above, we decided to add a FAQs page to the site. Here, you'll find answers to twenty of our most frequently asked questions. If you can't locate your question, please send it to us using the Contact Us page or Feedback form.

Twenty Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Where do you rollerblade?

A1. The trails for the Tuesday and Thursday skates are all located in Toronto. The Sunday rolls are held in Toronto, Hamilton, Port Credit, Whitby, Welland, Fort Erie, and Port Colborne. We also do away trips to Ottawa, Chicago, and Niagara Falls.

A2. How do I get to the trails?

Q2. Click the Rolls tab at the top of this page. From there you'll find directions to all the trails for our Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday rolls.

A3. When do you rollerblade?

Q3. Every Sunday afternoon at 1:30 PM sharp! Our first roll is May 25th and the last roll is on September 28th. We'll also be rolling every Tuesday and Thursday evening starting June 3rd and ending on September 11th. All weekday rolls in June, July, and August start at 7:00 PM, while the rolls in September begin at 6:30 PM so we can finish before it gets dark.

A4. Do you skate at night?

Q4. No, but if you want to skate at night, check out the Links page. Here, under the Clubs category, you'll find a link to a Night Skating group.

A5. Do you race?

Q5. No, but if you want to race, check out the Links page. Here, under the Clubs category, you'll find a link to the Toronto Inline Skating Club (TISC). They have a racing program.

A6. Do you participate in marathons?

Q6. Not as a rollerblading club, but we do have members who skate in marathons on their own. If you want to skate in marathons, check out the Links page. Here, you'll find a new category called Marathons.

A7. Do you stress fitness on your rolls?

Q7. Yes, definitely! Our approach is to build strength and endurance with a series of fifty-six, high-energy workouts over a four-month period. To further this end, the rolls are held three times a week, and every week throughout the summer, including long weekends. So, we provide an upper leg and core strength element via the number of rolls, the continuity of the rolls from week-to-week, and the distance of our Sunday rolls, each of which is now 30+ kilometres in length during the months of July, August, and September. In addition, to enhance cardiovascular endurance, this season we will be introducing faster paced, interval skating at 3/4 speed, as well as sprints over short distances, where appropriate, on flat, straight stretches.

Q8. Do you provide lessons?

A8. Yes, we have a Skating Course for Beginners, which consists of four, 2-hour lessons in a safe, friendly environment, a Skating Course for Intermediates, which consists of four, 3-hour lessons on the trails, as well as a Skating Course for Advanced Skaters, which is new this year and consists four, 3-hour lessons on harder trails.

Q9. Where would I go for lessons?

A9. Check out the Lessons page on this site. We have information about all the skating courses. You must be a member of the Toronto Trailbladers to be able to take the lessons offered by the club.

Q10. How are group leaders assigned for the rolls?

A10. Group leaders are assigned on a roll by roll basis. Sometimes we'll form a beginner group, an intermediate group, and a faster group. In this case, three leaders are assigned.

Q11. How long does each roll take to complete?

A11. Each roll takes about 1.5 to 3 hours to complete round trip. Tuesday and Thursday rolls are shorter and take about 1.5 to 2 hours, while Sunday rolls are longer and take from 2.5 to 3 hours or more round trip. Sometimes, it depends on how many legs of a trail that you decide to roll.

Q12. Can you get water on the trails?

A12. Yes, sometimes. But on some trails, fountains can be few and far between. So, we recommend you carry two litres of water with you on the trails!

Q13. Are you still called the High Park Inline Skating Club? What gives?

A13. No, we were formerly referred to as the High Park Inline Skating Club, but not any longer. During the summer of 2003, our inline skating club name was changed. We are now officially known as the Toronto Trailbladers.

Q14. What do you do after your rolls?

A14. Our goal is to enhance the fitness level of our members in a safe, friendly environment. We also take time to socialize, usually at the half way point on the trail, as well as after the roll. We normally go for food and drink after the roll. After that we could take in a movie, go to a pub, shoot some pool, or do whatever the group wants.

Q15. Can I bring children with me?

A15. Sorry, no children! All members of our inline skating club are twenty-one years of age or older.

Q16. Is the Toronto Trailbladers a fun and friendly rollerblading club?

A16. Yes, definitely! These are actually our hallmarks. Our motto is Fun and Fitness among Friends. Our inline skating club consists of a great group of rollerbladers of various levels, who want to keep in shape, have fun, and meet new people. We gather at a local trail for an afternoon or evening of fast-paced rollerblading. We stress fitness, but we are not a racing club. We like to socialize, but we are not a leisure club.

Q17. Do you have any special events?

A17. Yes, we have at least one, but sometimes two specials a month. Click the Events tab above for a complete list of all events from April to October. Special event updates and schedule changes will be posted on this site in the Alert box on the home page so check in periodically throughout the spring and summer.

Q18. Do you have any overnight trips?

A18. Yes, we have a four-day, long-weekend trip to Chicago in June, a three-day weekend trip to Ottawa in July, a two-day weekend trip to Niagara Falls in September, as well as a two-day mini-trip to Port Credit in September.
